When I arrived I observed that much preparation
had been done to create the perfect Open Day. Except for a
few fellow students exercising their 'last minute' rush, everything
seemed to be in perfect order. There was a large stage erected
in the football field and numerous counters set up in the
basketball court. Moreover my colleagues also decorated many
of the classrooms. I recall that I was quite surprised to
learn that my colleagues had set them all up having just one
day of preparation.
This day was memorable chiefly not because
on how well the decorations were buy also due to the rain
that came pouring down as soon as the opening ceremony commenced.
Indeed the rain spoilt every effort put onto decorating the
football fiend. It was also the only Open Day that I know
which had ever experienced cramped weather conditions. It
pains me to watch how my colleagues' work was being ruined.
As could be expected, the organizing committee
didn't expect such unpleasant weather. Yet the promptness
of their response was commendable. They quickly sent students
to remove the strips of cloths that decorated the football
field before they got soaked in the rain and be unusable.
They also moved their headquarters instantly without causing
any chaos or confusion among the visitors.
Such surprises, though unpleasant, teaches
me to take care of similar conditions if I were an organizer
of an event like this. Such experiences will be invaluable.
I'm sure future students will also benefit from the experience
and continue to make Open Day a further success.
